Every neighborhood have these plant near their homes. In Ilokano we say as "Aba", in Tagalog we say as "Gabi"in English we say as "Taro". Aba is very nutricious food. The mature leaves of aba, is not usually because it's itchy. Careful when tiring the leaves because it might be teared, also in cleaning aba as the hands might got some itcheness.
The aba cooking. Delicious dish is paksiw nga aba or soured. I boiled water with garlic first, then putting bagoong, put in some ginger, chili and some onions and then the leaves of aba. Cook the aba for some time and don't stir else it becomes itchy (on the mouth or on the throat). Undercooked of aba is also itchy sometimes. Just cook it well and avoid stirring while the aba is being cooked. I made mine paksiw na dahon ng aba by adding fresh tamarind fruit. Ready to serve.
